Mamelodi Sundowns put on a five-star show at the FNB stadium in Soweto to all but confirm their coronation as DSTV Premier Soccer League champions for the 7th season in a row, with 6 games still to play for the Tshwane giants.

It is the earliest a team has won the title in the PSL era and Mamelodi Sundowns have their eyes on another record as they now look set to finish the season unbeaten.

Who could forget the Arsenal Invincibles class of 2004 that went the entire 38 game English Premiership League season without losing a single match, a record which has stood for 2 decades now.

The Tshwane giants look poised to emulate the Gunners and the become the Invincibles of the Premier Soccer League, a record that will be difficult to replicate if they are to achieve it in the remaining 6 fixtures.

Arsenal went the entire 2003-04 season unbeaten

Mamelodi Sundowns went into the encounter with Kaizer Chiefs knowing victory will crown them champions and what a stellar performance they put on with young Tashreeq Matthews the star of the show grabbing a brace with two clinical, exquisite finishes.

With the first half ending goalless the floodgates for the goal fest came in the 2nd half with young Matthews opening the scoring in the 52nd minute with a left-foot tap in at the right end of the Amakhosi goal from a Lucas Ribeiro cross that cut through the Chiefs defense inside the 18yard box.

It did not take long before Matias made it 2 four minutes later dribbling past his markers in the box before unleashing a shot that found itself in the back of the net, Matthews was at it again as a Marcelo Allende pass found him with space on the left side unleashing another finish to make it 3nil.

Shabalala would pull 1 back for Amakhosi in the 85th with a penalty but it was too little too late as Ribeiro pulled a low shot just outside the box making 4-1 before Lorch rounded up the scoring with the 5th of the match for Masandawana sending the Tshwane giants into 7th heaven and their 7th title on the trott.

Mamelodi Sundowns can be likened to the old lady of Italian football the Turin giants Juventus or the Bavarian giants Bayern Munich who in recent memory won as many titles as possible on the trot, most recently this season they are in the Mould of Inter Milan who won the Italian Serie A with games to spare and recently crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Leverkusen.
